Gate Pattern

Written By: Julie Categories: Featured, Observations No Comments »

I love pattern!  And I tend to seek out pleasing patterns wherever I go.  This weekend I found this beautiful iron gate at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society in Wellesley, MA where I literally got lost in the curling iron.  The pattern inspired me to create the image below.

Now how can I find a client to commission a custom iron-work pattern from J Sherman Studio?

Fortune Tellers 2.0

Written By: Julie Categories: Featured No Comments »

We were so happy with the feedback from our first version of the fortune teller (a.k.a. cootie catcher) that we designed version 2.0 of our J Sherman Studio fortune teller.  We love origami, pattern, and playful content.  This version of the fortune teller uses design terms and shares quotes about graphic design and branding as the fortune.

Sweet

We love helping clients do sweet things.

Here are two Valentine-related projects to inspire you to spread sweetness this February.  This fun invitation was designed for Veeder + Perman in New York City (we wish we could go to the event, it sounds fabulous!).

The bottom images shows a playful thank-you message we designed to accompany homemade cookies delivered last year by our client New Profit Inc.  Yum!

Do you send your clients, friend, coworkers, or target market Valentines?

14 Stories

14 things to celebrate!  We happily drank champagne last night to toast Bernadette Coveney Smith’s incredible six years of business as a wedding and event planner and her fabulous business name change to 14 Stories.  Congratulations Bernadette! You are truly amazing.  Check out the postcard invitation we helped her design below.

Holiday Madness

Not sure what was crazier… how our “simple” holiday greeting turned into a craft project or how I obsessively documented the production!  Either way, I love the results and hope our mailing list recipients did too.  Please enjoy some photos of this colorful assembly-line project.

First we embossed…

Then we folded…

And stamped…

And stamped…

And cut, and punched, and cut, and punched…

091230_blog_5

And tied until our fingers were tingling…

091230_blog_6

But it was worth it to make these little presents!

So sweet all piled up together…

And a fun surprise to open up!

Oasis of the Seas

More images to come!  Please enjoy a few photos of carpet pattern designs on one of Royal Caribbean’s newest ships, Oasis of the Seas.  We designed several patterns for our client, Wilson Butler Architects who designed several spaces on this ship and will post more images soon.  The samples below are of the Opal Main Theater and the nightclub, “Blaze.”  Like all of the carpets, we worked closely with the client to have the carpets work thematically with the rest of the space and surrounding materials.  What fun!

14 Stories

Written By: Julie Categories: Featured, Project Details No Comments »

What’s in a name?  Sometimes a lot of meaning.  Our wonderful client and partner for the joint-offering wedding stationery, Bernadette Smith, changed the name of her event-planning business last week from It’s About Time to 14 Stories.

This new name has several layers of meaning, as described on their website: www.14stories.com. In Bernadette’s words: “14 is a powerful number in the history of civil rights.  It was the number of individual plaintiffs in the case that first legalized gay marriage in Massachusetts.  14 is the U.S. Constitutional Amendment that was used to dismantle segregation and end the ban on interracial marriage.”  And of course, every couple has their own special story and 14 Stories helps tell those couples tell their stories.    It’s About Time was a very meaningful name when Bernadette started her business, but now it is no longer about time as the time is here!

We love the new name:  it is evocative and simple.  And since we like to tell visual stories, we are only too happy to work with Bernadette on telling her business story and her client stories.

We designed her new logo and then applied it to existing materials.  The goal was to design something crisp, clean, and innovative, but with warmth and personality.  We tried many concepts, but settled on something simple that would be versatile and long-lasting.  The logo, which is always seen in context with other elements, is a simple mark that can be paired with many different graphic elements.  This is important for 14 Stories since there are so many unique stories and applications where this logo will be found.  Please check out the logo below, with illustrated lovebirds from some marketing materials, two small advertisements, and the 14 Stories website (which we designed in full and was built by Agency 3).

Podcast Graphic

Written By: Julie Categories: Featured 1 Comment »

We were so excited to design our first podcast graphic for New Profit Inc.!  This is a simple graphic but was actually a bit of a design challenge.  This image is viewed at multiple scales, from tiny thumbnail to a larger scale image.  The challenge was to create something that was appealing and legible at all scales.  Please check out the Gathering of Leaders on iTunes to see the graphics and more importantly to listen to the inspiring podcasts.
