Today I spent a good hour feeling bummed out as I perused cheap office furniture online.  It all looked generic, unattractive, and disposable.   I want this office to feel warm, collaborative, and open instead of looking like a displaced corporate office cubicle.  I finally asked myself what my dream office furniture was… and after pricing it out online realized that while it was more expensive than the other offerings, it wasn’t unreasonable and it would have a much longer lifespan.  I’m only doing this once, so I’m going to get the right furniture for this space.

To test out the decision we marked off the space with tape to see where the furniture would go.  I’m going to sleep on this and order the furniture this week.

The Studio will probably have a phased transformation: we’ll start by steam-cleaning the carpets and then spend some time pondering what kind of flooring we actually want to put up there.  And we’ll paint the walls a neutral warm tone so that they will not interfere with the color balance of our work.  Right now we are trying to figure out what kind of desks to buy (traditional office desks, desks with sawhorses, door desks, counter height desks… argh!) – any advice would be welcome!
