In 2007, Julie made the decision to focus her design and art direction talents on work that felt meaningful, thoughtful, and lasting. She said goodbye to the corporate world and hello to J Sherman Studio—and hasn’t looked back since.
As founder and creative director, Julie leads the Studio with a highly collaborative and deeply hands-on approach. She’s both actively involved in our client projects and also in training, nurturing, and building a distinctly unique Studio approach and methodology that can endure (and allow her to go on vacation from time to time!).
She partners closely with clients to shape brands, align complex ideas, refine communication strategies, and guide projects from high-level vision through execution. She loves all projects where we get to make meaningful ideas become reality: visual identity systems, fundraising and stakeholder communications, campaigns, reports, presentations, websites, and brand evolution work for organizations navigating growth, change, and complexity.
Julie is especially interested in the structure beneath the design itself: how organizations communicate, how people make meaning, and how thoughtful visual systems can create clarity, trust, and cohesion. Her approach blends strategic thinking, communication, fine art sensibility, curiosity, and a genuine enthusiasm for helping clients untangle complexity.
She is proud to lead a women-owned and women-led business built around collaboration, continuous learning, and thoughtful process. She believes strong systems and clear communication create better partnerships, stronger creative work, and healthier organizations overall.
Julie holds a BFA in fine art from Cornell and an MS in communications from Simmons. As a Newton, MA small business owner and Massachusetts native, she remains deeply connected to her community and has a deep love of all things Boston.
She is fiercely committed to continuous learning and actively participates in entrepreneurial and leadership communities centered around growth, collaboration, and thoughtful business building.

As a native Newtonian, Jenny is literally our own Jenny from the block! Jenny has been a member of the J Sherman Studio team for more than 10 years. In the past decade she has contributed talent as both a lead designer and an art director for the studio. As a practitioner of orderliness and zen, Jenny brings continuity and calmness to the Studio’s work flow.
Jenny doesn’t shy away from textures, patterns, and colors in her work, often pulling inspiration from a simple brush stroke, a vintage poster, or a recent sunset. And with a knack for creating structure from chaos, you’ll find Jenny slinging every last pixel into place.
Jenny discovered her love for graphic design as a college intern at Philographica Inc. She later went on to design invitations for Paper Source before teaming up with Julie in 2009. She has a BA in Illustration from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
